proxyElite is a project run by the psych0tik network to address the need for a reliable list of currently available HTTP proxies. In addition to simply listing proxies, proxyElite also involves research into more accurate ways of gathering data about proxies, monitoring their status and reliability, and detecting their use.
Started in 2007 by richo and only_samurai, proxyElite was created in response to the poor selection and reliability of publicly available proxies. After a few months of running, the project was shut down due to resource consumption issues on a shared-host.
Through the formation of the psych0tik network, we finally had the resources to revive this project. As a part of this rebirth, the entire code-base for both the pEcore (the engine that runs proxyElite's databases) and the proxyElite web application were re-written from the database up.
